Hi all! I've been wondering whether you think Mantic ought to do a Wood Elf army? Or should they make some Wood Elfy miniatures and just tack them onto the existing Elf Army? Either way, I wish Mantic would make some nice elvish horse archers... --- Gerry

Well, considering that they are putting out a Dark Elf conversion kit, I wouldn't discount the possibility.
The only thing that might be an issue is that the current Elves are armoured, and Wood Elves are traditionally not. Funnily enough, I was considering using my Mantic Elves to do a WotR army, and the lack of unarmoured ones was a bit off-putting. Yes, too many potential projects on the go...

I'd prefer them to concentrate on more races first before looking at subraces.

According to another Mantic Fanatic, Wood Elves -- at least as a conversion kit -- were addressed as a likely possibility back at Gen Con, although no time frame was mentioned. It is quite possible that the new bow elves may be part of this, as the heads don't seem to have been changed for the Dark Elves.

That is my view too. More races means you can convert more WHFB players.

As with any race they do, it shouldn't be a direct copy from other (...whfb) established games. Sure the main themes should be reproduced but archetypes can be moulded and new ones introduced. Centaurs might be a nice addition to the wood elf army.

I'd rather see a human army first. I'm eager to see what sort of humans they release.

I don't think wood elves would be a good idea. You can paint the current elves with brownish colours and say 'they're wearing leather armour which doesn't protect too much'... A conversion kit sprue would be very nice though. What I think the elves need is a better sculpt. I know, I know, Mantic needs to make as much profit as they can with the current sculpts. IMHO they nailed the concept art of the elves, but failed sculpting the models

The second, I think. Why do them as a separate army? the only force limits are one solid regiment per war machine/character, so just add rules for (very) light infantry and horse archers to the main elf list. Add in a treeman as a hero/monster option and you're almost there. Forest spirits (and/or good aligned beastmen) could be done as a separate army - eventually - but I don't see the point in separating "wood elves" from "high elves" in KoW...

+1 to leaving subraces alone for now.
Besides, because of the KoW allies system, rather than WE, they can just produce a "Beasts of the Forest" or "Arboreal Spirits" list which you could then ally with Elves to form a "mirror" list to GW's WE list.

Ronnie said at the open day that the Elf list would be expanded to introduce more "classic" elf types. The current list focused on the "haughty" elves.
Note the list was being expanded though, not a separate one being made. Players can theme armies from the list with a particular bias or create a mixed-elf force.

So, haughty Elves, Naughty Elves, and, lemme guess... Dead Elves - the best kind.
