Now that the new Mantic forums are open for business. There's been almost zero activity since then.

I put that done to new and shiny syndrome. I reckon a few of us will continue on here. It is a bit of a smaller, more relaxed community. We will also need a place to go when the new forum and warseer are down.

Well, you can't say fuck on the official boards.  Especially if you are a mod...   Cool

Since you've finally read the shoutbox, you know my opinion. Wink

I do believe this site will continue, so long as the core posters continue to use it. If they should stop however...  Cry

I'll continue to be here cause it gives me a place to chat about hobby stuff without restrictions like those on Warseer and the new forum. Plus I can see the new forum having some teething pains if Mantic doesn't get a handle on spammers. Right now they are a ripe target for a malicious attack and if that should happen I can see their forums being down for a while until it's made more secure.

On Topic, I think you'll find a number of folks stop posting here in favour of the new forum, so yes, this site will be somewhat quieter than it has been.

So, it's just us old grumblers lounging around here?

That works for me.  This is kind of like the private party room at my favorite restaurant.  Not far from the hustle and bustle, same great people, just lots quieter.

This forum will be a bit more relaxed.  As an unofficial arm, we've got a lot more leeway in what we can get away with.  And I don't just mean Gaarew's fondness for cursing. Wink

We're all fans here, but there's also a bit of freedom that comes with not being a company-owned forum.  If there's ever something some fans really don't like, we can go berserk if we feel the need.  While I don't think Mantic are likely to go GW and crush all dissenting voices, there may be *some* issue where they need to step in.  We can be a bit less filtered.  And for me, personally, knowing that the members that actually are willing to call themselves 'fanatics' is freeing.  There are things I might say among friends, or would say directly to folks at Mantic that I wouldn't say on a general board.

So I think there'll always be a role for this forum, even if it may slow down a bit.

I think there will always be a need for an unofficial forum it is more of a case that currently the Mantic community is much smaller then some other miniature wargames and right now it is growing so i will always be hanging around looking in with my 2 pence every now and then Smiley

At least one important feature likely missing from the official mantic forums: announcements of sales of mantic figures.

Yeah...they're not likely to tout people cutting the prices, so that's clearly an area where we'll still be of use.

I've noticed that we're still getting a fair number of Members and visitors checking in here regularily, but few are posting. I'm as guilty as anyone of this recently.

What we need is just a little bit more involvement from our little community here.

It doesn't matter if you're not currently playing or working on an army, even if you just have an observation, comment, question, concern, wishlisting... We're pretty easy going here and I'm sure many of us here share similar interests.

For myself, it's kind of an odd time for me and the Mantic hobby. My interest is primarily fantasy, but it's been a pretty slow time for fantasy... Since the Orc release last summer/fall. Until we start to see some new fantasy releases, likely still several months away, I'll feel a little  withdrawn from the hobby.

I do have some interest in the upcoming Pandora game, but in general I haven't been drawn to Warpath. The only Mantic SciFi mini's that intrigue me so far are those of The Corporation. I hate to admit it but for alien races I'm much more interested in what Defiance Games has in the works... And I'm still not convinced that those will ever get made.

So, yeah. I just need Mantic to do something soon that gets me excited and back into the hobby again.
