I was trying to come up with a backstory for my human army and I didn't want it to clash to much with the world. I saw them as being an advanced naval based trading empire. Like the Greek colonies or the British Empire. I remember reading that the Greeks (and British) built cities along the coast of distant lands to trade from and used naval power to make sure they were the only traders.
However, is colonialism something that goes on in Mantica? Are all human of the same technology level or are some more advanced than others. Are the remote human tribes to make contact with?
I know that some of these have no definitive answer but I thought it would be useful to collect the information that we do have.
For example. Military Technology level: Gunpower - (some?) humans, dwarves, abyssal dwarves Dark age/Medieval - (some humans?) Classical - (some humans?), Elves Tribal - (some humans?), Orcs, Goblins
Also do we know who uses slaves? Is slavery commonplace or has the presence of other sentient species made enslaving your own species immoral sooner than in our world.
Abyssal Dwarves enslave other races, do they enslave other Dwarves? Do any of the good factions have slavery, what about neutral?

I get the feeling that the Riminese are supposed to be a rennaisance type culture - gunpowder interspersed with more conventional weapons, universities and so forth.
I think that unless you wanted to create a barbarous civilsationj then you'd have trouble justifying Bronze Age societies... but anything late roman empire onward shouldn't be too dificult to justify.
I guess you can pick and choose your culture's attitude to slavery.
Abyssal Dwarves do enslave their Dwarven cousins.
