Basically at first glance the seem to be a lot. Perry's War of the Roses infantry look very tempting to me! As do their Samurai. And Warlord Games's Romans. Or Gripping Beasts Vikings. Or (and so on and so forth)...

It has to be admitted that there are a lot of historical ranges that provide good affordable infantry, but some lack accompanying cavalry. Some have leaders and almost none have Magic Users.

My question would be what ranges do people think are complete enough to make balanced human armies from. Perry's WotR range is excellent for infantry but I am having a lot of trouble finding plastic cavalry that would fit in with it. The Romans lack gunpowder siege weapons and have too many infantry choices that only have hand weapons and shields. Again also no Roman themed wizards to be found.

So I thought it would be good for us to brainstorm human army ideas. The key features would be. Diverse Infantry, Cavalry, Characters, Artillery and Magic users that all fit a single theme.

Ideas anyone?

Warlord's Pike & Shotte Range.

Pikemen, Handgunners, Archers, Guys with Halberds, Guys with swords, militia, cavalry, pistol cavalry, cannons, mortars, priests, pretty much everything going.  As for the Wizard, pick a suitable looking model and let your opponent know before the game starts.

If you wanted to be a little out there, look at Seven Years War or Napoleonic figures.  Herds of missile troops wih cavalry and artillery.  Might be fun.

I just been using warhammer marauders for my kingdom of men army. they normally go on 25mm bases but fit the 20s just fine thankfully. I am going to use a mix of GW for now cause I have no idea when they will have the models from mantic.

The Pike and Shot range is very good (and as I already have the starter battalia for another project that I dropped that is an added bonus for me). I don't see any of these though. "Archers, Guys with Halberds, Guys with swords, Militia"

I'm planning on using the Warlord Games range of Ancient Greeks and/or Ancient Britons as Kingdoms Of Men. In the current project I'm writing - had a great meeting with Ronnie at Warpath Launch Party btw regarding it - my version of man is very much Clash Of The Titans.

Warlord do a great range and at very good prices. http://www.warlordgames.com/

From what Ronnie was saying, he believes that there is ample space on Mantica for as many Kingdoms of Man as anyone could imagine.  What will be interesting is what miniatures Mantic make for themselves.

As most humans in 28mm are already produced for historicals at Mantic like prices I do wonder why they would bother;  it's not like competing against GW where you've got around a 4:1 price benefit.

My thoughts?  Mantic work with Warlordgames to produce re-badged miniatures in Kings of Wars unit sizes.

For cavalry, Conquest Games has 28mm Norman Knights in plastic.  I haven't seen them "in person" but they have pictures of the sprues on their website  http://www.conquest-games.co.uk/index.php and they look pretty nice

For those in the US, Architects of War carries them also http://www.architectsofwar.com/conquestgamesplasticnormans.aspx

The Conquest stuff is a good fit, and probably what I'd use to do a full Knight list.

Im planning on doing a 'Kingdom of Women' army using freebooter amazons as heroes, the wargames factory amazons as shield wall, pike maidens, archers and spear maidens, and hasslefree 54mm female spartan esque model as ogres. might make it an evil/neutral army and use some of the wargods of aegyptus cats as werewolves

Fireforge Games is a new company making plastic sprue mini's. Only one release so far, but they're looking pretty good.

I'd have to see these in person, or in some comparison pics to get an idea how they measure up sizewise, but so far I like what I'm seeing.
