So.. 1 month after mantic release their resin plastic wraiths, GW releases a white dwarf update to the vampire counts book that turns wraiths into a hero choice instead of a rare choice.

Interesting move, I thought, undercutting the competition indirectly by changing the rules for the models.

Wondering what other releases mantic has made that GW could write off as far as using the models for fantasy goes.

Well, there goes my plans to paint up a few boxes and sell them on to warhammer players...

Or, I could still do it, and sell them on as heroes...  Tongue

Has it been confirmed the article removes the unit from the VC book?

That seems incredibly unlikely, unwieldy and unenforceable without it also being added to the VC errata.

Yep, confirmed over on warseer. Banshees remain as a single-model rare choice. The WD also nerfs power scrolls.

I'd imagine they'd be adding it to the errata too.

I just read all 17 pages and I didn't see it say the unit was removed anywhere?

Oh well, guess the warseer guy reported this one wrong.

I have no clue personally, stopped buying WD years ago, it went to hell after issue ~310.

The option to use them as heroes has been added, but I wasn't aware that they'd been removed as units too.

Not read the article however, so can't fully comment as yet.

Anyway, the optin still exist:  you can buy a horrid finecast model for your wraith hero OR buy 10 resiplast models for the same price...

I REALLY could not understand why ppl would buy that GW model... instead of the mantic one...

Because some people play games in GW stores, and can't use minis from other manufacturers.

Far as I could make out, the option is there to use them as a unit, or as a hero, or as both. Having said that it wouldn't surprise me if GW's response to Mantic making fantasy armies cheaper than they are was to remove some of the options- but I think a lot of players still plugged into the GW/Matrix machine thingy would be angry, as the unit was a pretty good one (rules-wise that is)

I don't mind that plastic GW wraith- no real opinion on it- although I can't work out why one of the skull heads you can fit into the cowl looks like a Necron!?!?

Personally, I'll stick to Mantic! Wink
