So, based on the Turn 8 info from Beasts of War - Big battles (of course) 3 armies right off the bat, vehicles, Space Dwarfs, Space Orks, Fishmen (if those mad Oirishmen are to be believed). At least 8 races overall, possibly more, as the 8th race is not discussed. Round bases, squad based, but scales up. Sounds familiar... Hmmmm, Mr Renton, does the word Apocalypse mean anything to you?

Having looked at the rules briefly, my only worry is that it might be slightly less tactical than KoW. This is for 2 reasons. First, outside of vehicles, there's no flank/rear rules so maneuver isn't as critical. It seems like most melee combats will just be mashing lumps of units together. Second, the speed of vehicles means that they can cover huge swathes of table.
Now, a lot of these are just impressions -- and I'll have to see how it plays out. My worries may be completely unfounded.

Luckily, I know that many of the rules being suggested in the Alpha forums won't even be entertained. There are lots of bad ideas floating around, including some of mine. Vehicles are problematic, and the sheer amount of shooting and volumes of dice being rolled means that units should come off the table quickly. I need to get an actual game in against myself soon and see how it feels.

Hi folks. I have read throught the just released Beta rules for Warpath.(And played a couple of games.) And I am slightly dissapointed.
'Kow in SPAAAACE!'
I was expecting so much more from Alessio!
Using WHFB game mechanics in 40k failed miserably. (Andy Chambers quit his job as 40k overlord because GW corperate didnt change the game mechainic to something more suitable for 4th ed.) WHY didnt Alessio write a new rule set for the fast pased tacticaly focused MODERN wargame Warpath could have been?
So many more suitable game mechanics that could have been used...
EG. In KOW the units are generaly fireing into large blocks of troops ,(the models represent 50 to 500 actuial fighters!) So the shooting skill of the attacker is the determening factor.
In Warpath the units are represented directly one model for each combatant.
Thefore the unit size and battle field skill is far more important. So why not give units a 'stealth value ' used in the same way as the 'defensive value' for close assault.
And thngs like cover , and supressed ADD 1 to the targets stealth value. And rhings like higher ground and less than 18" away add to the dice roll of the attacker.
It is possible to get far more detail , with more straight forward rules IMO.
I am happy to discuss alternatives if anyone is intereated?
