Just wondering if anyone has any useful tips on them, as I'm considering using them. I suppose my main question at the moment would be, when do you apply them, before or after varnishing the model? I would've said before, but I've no idea how the varnish would interact with them.

Transfers tend to go on better (and look better) when the area you are applying it to is varnished. I tend to gloss varnish, apply transfer and then matt varnish when the transfer has dried (overnight).

What about the stickers Mantic supplies with their minis? I wont use them but oes the application differ from traditional transfers besides the fact you peel and seal?

You'd want to make sure the surface was clean and dry but other than that they're just like normal stickers. I don't really like the designs on them though, red and blue is too limited... they would have been much more awesome if they were just black with a white skull.

Cut the transfers as close as possible to the image. I use Solvaset on my transfers which pulls them tight to the surface as it dries to get rid of air bubbles.
Also, smoothing the surface using glass varnish first as Robert says is a common technique.

Yeah, varnish the area first, cut as close to the transfer as possible, then apply it. Revarnish over it.
