I am a fan of the simplicity of Kings of War and want to use my existing armies to play the system.  Unfortunately two out of four of them are not armies for which Mantic produces an equivalent (yet).  So I set out to make a list that would be a good proxy for Warriors of Chaos using only official lists and the ally rules.  This is what I came up with:

Daemon Lord (Morgoth) (Un) - 350

Army Standard Bearer (AD) - 30

Shaggoth (Halfbreed Champion) (AD) - 140

Chaos Warriors (Immortal Guard Regiment ) (AD) - 165

Chaos Warriors (Immortal Guard Regiment ) (AD)- 165

Chaos Marauders (Ax Horde) (Or) - 195

Chaos Ogres (Fight Wagon Troop) (Or) - 90

Chaos Knights (Revenant Cavalry Regiment) (Un) - 185

Chaos Warhounds (Gore Rider Troop) (Or) - 80

Chaos Warhounds (Gore Rider Troop) (Or) - 80

Please submit criticism on two fronts: Appropriateness of the KOW unit as a representative of the equivalent other game unit, and overall list strength.

Personal thoughts: chaos warhounds are obviously not that strong in the other game, but there aren't any really weak cavalry units for KOW yet.  I like the idea of the warhounds as thick-skinned (5+ de) dogs who die quickly but inflict a lot of damage.  My other concern is that the chaos ogres aren't all that tough despite their 6+ de, but we'll see.

I don't get to game much so I can't really comment on the list strength.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about the Goreriders as the hounds, unless you mean of course just using the stats, in which case then that'll work.

The only other comment could be that the Knights (as undead cavalry) will not be able to move at the double and will need Mhorgoth to use dark surge on them to push them around.

One thing the list is missing is any ranged firepower (if you exclude Zap!)

Well, a Balefire could be added as a counts as Hellcannon.

I wanted to post a 1500 list, but in a larger list I would include two angkor heavy mortars as hellcannons.

Just to be clear, the intention is to use the stats for the units in parenthesis and the WoC models, so the warhounds are just going to end up being stronger units when I use them in KoW than in the other game, which is fine, but I'll probably switch the proxy when/if a weak cavalry unit gets included in KoW.

About the Knights... the other cavalry just didn't have enough nerve/melee/defense to seem tough enough to be chaos knights.  They will be slow going unless I keep Mhorgoth with them, but I'll just say that's 'cause they're so heavily armoured.  Perhaps I should include a cheap necromancer to babysit the knights and let Mhorgoth go blow stuff up?
