Hi, I'm Breccan. I'm currently Devon, and have been wargaming for far too long. Started with Heroquest, and joined WFB at 3rd ed! I have a little baby daughter, which means I don't get up to much wargaming anymore and have little surplus moneys, which is why the mantic figures are so appealing to feed my painting habits.
I'm more of a painter and modeller than I am a gamer, though my painting is average at best and I have a nasty habit of getting bored half way through a job, a habit which I am currently attempting to conquer.
Anyway. hope this forum takes off, and gives us mantic freaks a home!

Hello Estarriol!
Ah, you love painting and modeling, grand! It's great to get enjoyment out of those aspects of the hobby, I feel bad for people who honestly find painting just a chore to get through. Me, I paint terribly, but it's still fun to do!
Congratulations on your baby girl, may her life be full of magic and blessings!

Hey B, your story sounds very familiar, re: Heroquest, being a painter/modeller rather than a gamer, and having serious time constraints due to family. All hail the gamer dads... Yup, make yourself at home, show off some of your (half) painted stuff if you feel like it. I reckon the more people are posting, the more others are likely to post. (That includes you Gerry, old chap )

Indeed yes, all hail us! It's weird really, I am still firmly of the opinion that GW never surpassed 3rd ed warhamster, but I like the look of the KoW rules, odd considering the contrasting levels of complexity.
hehe. My first few mantic skellies are making some slow progress alongside some GW Pikemen from ages past, as I got bored enough to finally try and make my Estallian army, but when I've got my test models done I'll stick up some piccies.
I'm fully intending to have them ready to do battle against some Estallians humans i've dreamed up some stats for Kings of War for. Bit of a long term project though.

Good stuff.
I'm really digging the KoW rules, it's like Warhammer lite, with a splash of Warmaster and a pinch of War of the Ring.
For someone with limited gaming time, the 'easy' rules are a godsend. Much better to flick through 15 pages rather than 1500...
Your Human army intrigues me, I have just this weekend been considering building up the huge amount of Warlord Picts and Celts that I never got around to assembling for WAB, to use as a pseudo-human army for KoW. Although, I'd probably count them as Elves for simplicity's sake.
If you think progress is slow, maybe you should invest in some coloured primers. I'm a recent convert to the Army Painter colours, using Plate Mail for my Dwarfs, and I'll probably use it for my Elves when I get round to them, plus I have Bone for my Skeletons, Flesh for my Ghouls, and I just picked up Necrotic Flesh for my Zombies. Although, I reckon I'll do batches of Zombies in all 3 of those colours, then mix them up in the units.

I posted my original thoughts on the main mantic forum. I'll post my updated ones on here in a day or two - focus is on big blocks of pikes and crossbows, light cavalry with javelins and heavy knights, probably operating as lone characters. I just love pikes They need to feature more in fantasy wargames.

Hello,
Funny thing, Hero quest originally got me into the hobby too! Recently I picked up a complete unpainted copy from eBay and I finished painting it up a couple of days ago! Me and a friend are going to have a Hero quest marathon on Wednesday to celebrate, would it be against the spirit of the forum to post up some pics of a non-mantic game??
