I don't believe I can get to Hawaii, but best of luck with your demo!

It's good to see you posting. It seems to me that it's been a while.
32  Warpath / General Warpath Discussion / Re: Pandora unboxing video over at BoW on: April 28, 2012, 07:25:38 am
I don't find BoW very cutting edge either. I've learned of more companies new to me through sites like TableTop Gaming News, The Miniatures Page, or even Warseer, which is so GWcentric it's scarey.

It seems to me that BoW likes to jump on the Bandwagon after other sites have already brought new companies to the forefront of hobbyists awareness.

To me, having someone think of BoW as the face and news source for our hobby is akin to those who think of GW as the epitomy of the miniatures hobby. Both companies know how to hype themselves rather well, but at times I seriously believe they are a hindrence to the growth of the miniatures hobby.
33  Non Mantic Mayhem / Non Mantic Mini Discussion / Re: Just going to take a moment to plug something.. on: April 25, 2012, 09:40:47 am
Hey there Cyp! A couple of questions for you.

I'm thinking of pledging at the $50 level for the transparent assassins, but I'm unsure as to what the delivery charge to Canada would be. The site says  $30 and under would be a 5$ charge while $60 and over would have a $20 charge. Nothing there for a $50 pledge.

Also when is the delivery charged? Do I just add it into the pledge amount when I enter it?

One last question. Would the $50 pledge level qualify for the 3 Brushfire dice incentive?

Thanks in advance for answering.
34  Warpath / General Warpath Discussion / Pandora unboxing video over at BoW on: April 20, 2012, 08:49:47 am
Wow. What a mess.

The guy doing the video had little to no idea of where to put the mini's/tiles/rulebook so that they were in frame for the camera. He kept fumbling with the mini's so that you could never get a good look at them... And he rambled on like he had very little idea of what he was talking about.

I'll admit I've never been the biggest fan of a lot of what BoW has done, but way back when they first started their unboxing videos they were a LOT better and much more professional than this mess. The former original unboxing host showed the figures well while giving a good description of what he was showing in addition to a well thought out review of the boxes contents, no comparison really with the current videos. I'm quite surprised by the backwards steps in quality that has happened here.

It's way past time for BoW to get their act together  and start behaving like a bunch professionals if they want to put themselves forward as the face of the hobby. Time to change up the on-air "talent" and get a proper producer/director to film their videos. This is just an embarassment for Mantic and other game company that has their product reviewed in such an amatuer manner.

Rant over.

Thank goodness that their On The Table video review show is at least still watchable.

Hey there Cyp.

Congrats! It looks like you reached your goal! Smiley

I've heard of Kickstarter before, but I never really understood how it worked. Thanks for the link.

I've always liked your Brushfire minis, but I have to say your team has really raised the bar with your recent and planned future releases. I've long been a fan of Jason Wiebe's work with Reaper, I'm really looking forward to seeing the final mini's he does for you.

And no... I haven't pledged yet, but hopefully I'll be able to get something together before your deadline.

Also... Yay! Chipmunks! Grin

Welcome to the Fanatics! (and to the official forum as well since you're heading there)

Keep this site bookmarked and check in from time to time. I expect we might see an increase in traffic here once Mantic goes back to releasing new things for fantasy and KoW.

That table's for a demo of a skirmish game called Brushfire which features battles between animal races based around historical army ideas.

Thanks for that Robert!

And while I'm here, if mattl is reading this...

Is that project your working on Mantics upcoming official podcast?

Any other tidbits from that video to share with us Robert?

Just curious how far away that human army might be, or any news about the upcoming goblins. Anything?
40  Painting & Modelling / The Paintstation / Re: New GW Paint Line on: March 24, 2012, 05:36:19 am
I'm not going to run out and buy a bunch of the new paints to try out either, but since close to 50% of my currently used paint bottles are GW's, as they run out I'll be having to replace them with something. That's probably when I may give some a try.

Of course at my current speed of painting many of the new paint colours may very well be discontinued by then.
41  Painting & Modelling / The Paintstation / Re: New GW Paint Line on: March 23, 2012, 05:33:40 am
I agree with the movement trays and the terrain. Despite all the skulls, I do like a lot of their terrain.

While I haven't bought much else from GW for a while now, I would still likely be tempted by any expansions GW might do on their Empire and Bret mini lines too. I like most of the mini's for those armies, which is why I collected them in the first place, although I won't be using them for Warhammer.

For paints though, I'm limited by what I can easily get locally, which for me means Reaper-which I quite like, Vallejo-which I don't like, P3-of which I've only tried and liked their inks, and of course GW-which if it wasn't for their price and poorly designed containers, I actually don't mind using as a compliment to my Reaper paints.

I know that I'll be trying a bottle or two from each of the new GW paint categories just to see what they're properties are like... But as the current prices are already a bit beyond silly, I can't see myself relying too much on this new line going forward.
42  Painting & Modelling / The Paintstation / Re: New GW Paint Line on: March 21, 2012, 01:29:37 am
I've heard nothing about prices.

Some more pics though from Dakka Dakka.

I'll probably give Some of these a try, just to test them as my current paints run out. I am hoping that the new shades work as well as the current washes. Those are one thing I haven't found a good current replacement for.

43  Painting & Modelling / The Paintstation / Re: New GW Paint Line on: March 20, 2012, 04:54:35 am
Well, from all that I have heard, these are all new formulas from a new manufacturer. None of the old names were kept because they're NOT there anymore. Some of the new colours may come close, but because of the change in formula and pigment level, their properties, especially when it comes to mixing and blending, may be quote different from the old colour.

Let's face it, our hobby attracts people who have a tendency towards obsessive compulsiveness. Those folks will be very upset if they can't get an exact match to what they were used to.

I've been in this hobby a long time, and have been through this sort of thing many times before, so it no longer bothers me as much as it may have at one time.
44  Painting & Modelling / The Paintstation / New GW Paint Line on: March 19, 2012, 09:43:24 pm
So it's official. GW is dropping their old paintlines and formulas in favour of introducing a new line, reportedly from a different manufacturer.

There's panic in the streets and much gnashing of teeth in a few forums, but rumour has it these paints will be of a higher quality than GW's now defunct line. The new line has also been broken up into various categories representing a new, for GW, painting system.

For myself, I've been in the middle of a bunch of painting projects for years, so I'll just be making do with whatever colours come closest to whatever paint I run out of. Whether that means buying the new GW paints and washes, or continuing to find replacements from other companies like Reaper or other companies, which is pretty much what I've been doing.

45  Non Mantic Mayhem / Non Mantic Mini Discussion / Re: On The Lamb has a new game on: March 18, 2012, 05:29:46 am
Well, as a, let's say mature hobbyist, I do in fact find I prefer painting slightly larger "heroic" sized minis. So I could see myself buying some of these if the final minis strike my fancy.

However that means they'll end up being display pieces only. Sitting on my shelves, unplayed with and gathering dust. Unlike the rest of my miniatures collection which are... Well... Sitting on my shelves...

It just seems to me as if you are needlessly limiting your potential customer base by going with this particular size. My thoughts anyway.

I'm not sure I understand your point about the different sized hexes either. As it sounds like you're saying I don't have to play with a specific sized miniature to play your game.
