1  Painting & Modelling / Miniature Showcase / +++The Corporation Is Watching+++ on: January 04, 2012, 11:36:55 am
Well as I made a start on my Warpath ForgeFather army this last few days I thought I'd show some pictures.

However what I've decided to do to try and keep me motivated this year is try and blog the progress.  Please have a look at the blog ive started  http://corporationiswatching.blogspot.com/ and let me know your thoughts.

I've started with 2 FOTF starter boxes and split the contents with my Son so he has the Marauders.  I've also used some GW Space Marine and IG bits I have to try and make them a bit more interesting.

Colour scheme wise I tried loads of different options but came back to the Blue and Bronze colour I tried first.

Always happy to hear comments on both the miniatures and the blog.

3  Painting & Modelling / Miniature Showcase / The Dead Will Rise in 2012! on: December 13, 2011, 09:33:51 am
Well I've decided that 2012 is my year of Undead and so I thought I'd give myself a head start by building and painting up what I have already.

I'm starting off with an Undead Army Set, a Death Kings Cabal and Mhorgoth the Faceless.

First up is Mhorgoth himself...

I probably wont play him much as he's very high points cost for lower point games but just wanted to paint him up.  Based him on a 50mm x 50mm base so that I could add some zombies rising from the dead.

Next is the first 30 of my Zombies (due to be 60 when my Christmas presents are handed over  Grin)

Just a very quick paint scheme which I saw in a YouTube video but certainly gets them on the table quick.  I still have some blood and gore to add to the back ranks and pick out the whites of there eyes and will put some static grass on when I have all 60 done.

I have 40 Skeletons, 20 Revenants and 20 Ghouls mid way through painting and have the Malak's Endless Horde Mega Army coming for Christmas so should have the basis of a good start.   Grin

I'm on the lookout for some good Werewolf and Mummy models and need to pick up some Wraiths at some point but have plenty to be getting on with here.

More updates as I finish them.

Yeah, nobody who had immunised themselves to it by licking used ashtrays...   Tongue

But thats part of our upbringing in the North East! Bottle of tea, Greggs sausage roll and a dirty ashtray.  Tongue

GET THE FUCK OUT!

I haven't touched that stuff since I was about 16, and drank 10 or so bottles before moving onto the Spanish Brandy, and almost drowning myself in vomit whilst I slept.

The fact that both my folks had to put me in the bath doesn't exactly make it a cherished memory...

 Grin

You do know it was the Spanish Brandy that caused it don't you??  Grin

Brown Ale never hurt anyone (much!)  Cry

If your looking for any North East participants you know where I am!

P.S. can bring Newcastle Brown Ale!  Grin

Well hopefully we'll get the chance.

On a slightly different note is there much of a tournamnet scene for KOW yet?  I'd like to get into tournamnet playing but dont see many advertised.

Hi guys,

Just wondered if anyone in the know had more information about the proposed KOW Invitational Tournament thats planned for early next year?

I saw on the Mantic website that if you bought one of there £150 Christmas Army bundles that it included a ticket for the KOW invitational tournament next year.

I've not heard anything other than that but would love to get involved so wondered if any of you knew any more details such as dates or how to be "selected" for the tournament.

10  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Why I went with Kings of War and not WFB on: December 05, 2011, 10:46:00 pm
I guess I'm just echoing the thoughts of others but for me it was two fold really....

About 12 months ago my 2 sons wanted to "paint models like Dad" and the thought of buying and letting them build and paint GW models (they were 7 at the time) felt like giving them £20 notes and watching them make paper aeroplanes.  I was in Hobby Craft with my wife one day when I saw Kings of War models that even at Hobby Crafts inflated prices seemed cheap.  I picked up the free Journal they had in store and had a look on the Mantic website when I got home.

I loved the models so much I bought a Dwarf Army for myself along with some Undead and Elf models for my boys.

All the guys at my game club played (and still do play) WFB but because having 2 kids and a job and everything that goes with it I just never found the time to really get to grips with WFB.  Even the guys who play it regularly still play with the massive rule book on the table and constantly refere to it throughout their games.

I found the KOW rules easy enough that I could learn to play by reading them (rather than having to be taught them like WFB) and even my boys picked up the rules no problem.  Now as I dont play as often as I'd like to I can still play KOW without having to refere to the rules every 2 seconds and still have loads of fun playing.

I do still love some of the GW models however I love the Mantic ones too.  I'm currently building my own Undead army and I'm loving the sculpts.

I'm struggling to get some of the WFB crowd to try the game as they are very hardened GW fanatics however I'm sure over time this will change and I'm looking forward to having my first fully painted army on the table in early 2012.

Thanks for the response guys!

I think I'll go with the painted minis and just keep playing it route.

Its a very strong WFB and 40K club and I guess thats whats driving this response really.  All it takes is one or two of the more vocal club members to shout the loudest and these things dont take off however I have no ambition to play either WFB or 40K so will keep plugging away with the Mantic games.

Wish me luck ......  Grin

We did,

We picked up 2 of the Fate of the Forge Star box sets, the 2 Hero models, an extra 20 Marauders, a couple of extra Raptors and the resin destryed Jotunn model.

We both had a great day so thanks again.

13  General Category / General Discussion / Introducing KOW and Warpath to your group on: November 14, 2011, 10:22:18 pm
I just wanted to see how you guys introduced KOW and Warpath to your gaming group/club/friends?

I've posted a couple of "does anyone play or would you like to?" type posts on my local gaming club forum and have been met by a bit of anit-Mantic abuse.

I can see that if you already play 40K or WFB then there may be no real reason to switch but this attitude of downright refusal to even give it a try seemed quite suprising to me.

I have introduced other games to the club in the past (Malifaux) which was very successful however I cant even seem to get a foot in the door with this one.

Has anyone here experienced the same kind of anti-Mantic or is it just my club?

Thought that this might be the best place to post it but I just wanted to say what a fantastic job the Pathfinders did at yesterday's  Launch Party.

Pete McF (didn't realise it was you until later!) did an awesome job of demoing for my son and I and seeing gaarew's blue Mauraders in the flesh they looked amazing and the photos here just don't do them justice.

Everyone was really friendly and helpful and I hope Mantic appreciate the job your doing for them.

Well done guys!

Well I'll be there tomorrow too along with one of my sons Sam.

I'll be the one that looks like I got up at 5am so that I could leave Newcastle at 6am so that I could drive to Nottingham in time for the opening!

Looking forward to playing some demo games and saying hi as I pretty new here anyway.

Will probably also post some tweets as the day goes on so anyone not going and wanting some updates follow me on Twitter
