Title: Mantic Pathfinders
Post by: mattl on October 28, 2011, 02:06:55 pm
What's the status of Mantic Fanatic/Pathfinder demo folks in the UK? In the US, I've been given stuff for demos and give aways, but that's about it so far.

My last response was from Chris on Monday, who said they were trying to decide whether Ken was going to oversee the U.S. Pathfinders, or whether it was going to be the U.S. Sales guy, Joe Neet.  Once they decided, they were going to be in touch with people.

Unfortunately, given that it generally takes about 1 week for things to arrive here (and I'm not insane enough to book a demo without a functioning product and set of rules in hand), that means that, at best we'll have about 9 days to arrange a demo, promote it and get all the stuff ready.

They're making it difficult to try to really build up enthusiasm over here.  I think they're just too overloaded to roll this thing out in the best possible way -- understaffed and all that, so they're not going to get a big splash in the U.S.  That's sad, because the Forgefathers I had gotten to show around a while back got positive reviews going.

I've shown mine to a couple friends and they've liked it. I wanted to get in on this.

Got demo stuff here being readied for Launch Party- and already starting to discuss demo events with indie stores, probably roll the first one out in Hereford early next year ;)

What exactly is the idea behind mantic pathfinders?
I know it's supposed to be somewhat similar to the pressgangers for privateer press, but O don't fully know how it works or if it's organized in the same way.

I'd be interested in seeing what it is they are doing with this, as I always thought having a representative in that way was a good idea for wargaming companies.

I dont think Mantic fully knows yet how they want to run the Pathfinders. They still seem to be in the planning stages, at least for North America.

As has been said, the intention is to raise awareness of Mantic and it's products at a grassroots level by having enthusiastic fans demo games and mini's at stores and events, with some support from Mantic in the way supplying some product to demo as well as giveaways.

Mantic asked a few months ago for anyone interested to contact them. It would seem they've picked the people they wanted involved.

Yeah, fair enough.
Although I'm fairly certain that I'm the only one playing their games in the Czech Rep right now.
And after talking to the owner of the only store which sells them here, I have a bad feeling that I'm right.

I was just curious mostly though, especially as this place really needs some hobby love.

As I mentioned in another thread, it doesn't hurt to ask. If I were you I'd contact Mantic, maybe PM Nightsword too, and let them know you're interested.

Make sure you tell them about your involvement with the Mantic based podcast, and your activity on the various forums.

Best of Luck.

Is there a list anywhere of who the official Pathfinders are and there locations?

The reason I ask is that I'd love to get involved and help where I can however if theres already someone local doing this I'd rather support them than go off on my own so to speak.

I'm sure there's an official list, but not a public one as of yet.

Latest word for the U.S. is that Ken will write up the program, and Joe will oversee it in the U.S.  Finishing touches are due any day now.

I don't know what effect this will have on Canada, as our Canadian brothers sometimes get touchy if you try to pretend they're just a more Northern part of the U.S.  ;)  Similarly, I assume, but don't know, that Ken will be running everything on that side of the Atlantic for now.  I don't know what plans they have for deeper European expansion of the program, or for Australia or other countries where Mantic is making some headway.

If you're interested in getting involved though, I'd send an email to info@manticgames.com with "Pathfinders" in the subject.  Then give an introduction about why you're interested and what your local gaming scene looks like and places where you'd be able to demo the game.

Llew, did you hear anything from yesterday's meeting?

Title: Re: Mantic Pathfinders
Post by: Llew on November 01, 2011, 04:51:29 pm
No.  I'm really not as "clued-in" as it sounds.  I just occasionally get responses to direct questions by email, so I report what little I know.  (For example, I don't even know Ken's last name, but just that he's going to be Lord of the Pathfinders.  Okay.  I made the title up, but it sounded cool.)

I have been unofficially told that they'd be happy to have me as a Pathfinder, but that was before anything official has been organized.  Ergo, I'm not even officially a member as of yet.  I'm hoping that my 4 days at Gen Con proved I can demo the games and speak with enthusiasm for the products though.  But I'm held up on even trying to schedule anything by getting official word on whether I'll have anything to schedule.

But anything I learn or hear will be duly reported to try to keep everyone in the loop.

I think something like this shows how small Mantic really are -- some days I get emails from Ronnie, some days I hear nothing about something like this. Originally, Ronnie wanted me and Joe to work on the US Pathfinders thing, then went quiet on the whole plan. We're all busy people.

I too, will report what I hear.

Was recently told by Chris in an Email reply that my name would be added to the "list".

Whether its a hit list, or a list of potential pathfinders, i'm not sure, although what Orcy did to Alessio at Essen makes it feel precarious.

For what it's worth, I'm one of the UK Pathfinders (as you probably all have realised by now if you read the Blog!) and so is Stewart Gibbs (although I have no idea who he is apparent way of contacting him!)

I'll email Ken and ask if there's a way of contacting the other Pathfinders.

Pete the Pathfinder  ;D

Saw your models on the blog and looking forward to seeing them at the Open Day.  ;D

I'm assuming that the Pathfinder programme is a relatively new thing?

It would be great to see more info from Mantic on this as there are no local stockists and no (that I know of) local clubs playing Mantic games in my region.

I would certainly like to get involved somehow if even only to make sure there are a few more opponents to play against.  Sick of getting beaten by my 8 year old son who has a keen knack of reading rules once and then remembering everything!

Yeah it is relatively new (as in still not sure how it all works).

Whereabouts do you live, Andy, and are you mobile, cos you're always welcome to come and have a game on our table here? Got a choice of three opponents, myself (undead) and my twins (elves and orcs). Drop us a message and let me know!

Failing that, see you at the Launch Party!!

I'm based in the North East but work in Manchester and also often visit family near Peterborogh some weekends so I deffinitely get about!

I am lucky enough to get a car with my job so fuel costs arn't a problem and would definitly be willing to travel for games.

I'll catch up with you at the launch party.

Thought that this might be the best place to post it but I just wanted to say what a fantastic job the Pathfinders did at yesterday's  Launch Party.

Pete McF (didn't realise it was you until later!) did an awesome job of demoing for my son and I and seeing gaarew's blue Mauraders in the flesh they looked amazing and the photos here just don't do them justice.

Everyone was really friendly and helpful and I hope Mantic appreciate the job your doing for them.

Well done guys!

We did,

We picked up 2 of the Fate of the Forge Star box sets, the 2 Hero models, an extra 20 Marauders, a couple of extra Raptors and the resin destryed Jotunn model.

We both had a great day so thanks again.

I'd like to do this here in AZ. What can I do?

It's still in the works for outside of the UK.

I emailed Mantic at info@manticgames.com and asked to be put on the list for those to be contacted once they figure out their outside of the UK approach for this program.

Until then, I'm going to build two 500 point armies for each game for half hour demo games.  Though Warpath will wait until the Corporation miniatures come out.

I figure the easiest thing to do is to start building and painting my demo forces up to 500 points and get started introducing people to the games and then once I can get some support from Mantic through a volunteer program, I'll get involved with that.

For demo purposes, it might be a better idea to have a fully painted Mhorgoth Rising box set, seeing as that is easily bought by new players.  Just saying    ;)

Definitely a good idea to use the starters.

That said, I don't really want Forgefathers or Dwarves so I'm not really interested in making a purchase of them just to volunteer.  If Mantic decides that means I can't be part of the program, then I won't.

I suspect they'll be more like Privateer and let the "starters" be from any faction rather than just their two player starter.  But if not, then that's fine.  I'll still try to find opponents and spread the game around, I just won't do it in the capacity of part of a volunteer promotional team.

I like the minis enough to buy them, even if I ever did get a set for free.  (In fact, my policy is pretty much if I get something free, I have to buy another one.)  I keep hoping for some word on the U.S. Pathfinders just because, if I have an actual project to work towards, I can carve out time to prepare for it.  But right now, if it's a case of promoting on my own, my wife would rather have me working on her business.  And, since a lot of our money is tied up in that, I can't really argue with her. ;)

But I hope to hear more on the Pathfinders.  I'd love an excuse to go play more and evangelize.

Mantic first put the word out for Pathfinders back in August. The only official word I've had back regarding the program in North America was an email back at the start of September, advising Mantic would be in contact with those on the list once the details were worked out.

Still waiting.  ;)

Same here in the Netherlands. My more or less local shop had contact with mantic of them running
the dutch department for them, so i'm waiting who's faster now.

Cheers

And the same with Spain.
The news I have about it is they want to strengthen the program in UK and then jump the rest of Europe and America.
I hope that the Pathfinders starts here during the first quarter of the 2012.

Okay.

Mantic Journal 5 did it for me.

I think the Forge Fathers are kind of awesome.  So I probably will start Warpath with a Fate of the Forgestar box rather than waiting for the Corporation releases.

So if I do end up hearing back from Mantic once they've got their program sorted, I will have at least one painted starter game.
