With over 1200 Mantic mini's that I have left to paint myself, even I have to bow down to gaarews magnificent monstrous mountain of Mantic mini's. :o

As for slowest painter. Unless someone else around here has miniatures they bought over 30 years ago that they still haven't got around to painting, I think that title's securely mine. ::)

Ironwatch will be up first so I can try my colour scheme without worrying about whether to have quartered/halved/block colour shields etc.

Really?  Why?  That's not a backlog, just a a medium sized order...   :P

If I have so many unpainted miniatures at home I get depressed. I should not have over 400 unpainted ... or 500.

Well this is just my Mantic stuff... I have like 11k HE unpainted, 3-4k TK half-painted, 8k CSM with 1.5k "painted" plus BFG, Warmaster, Blood Bowl (~11 Teams), Space Crusade, Space Hulk 3rd Ed, Heroquest, Talisman 4th Ed.........................

I enjoy painting, but assembling and basing models I find painful so I tend to "fall out of love" with stuff by the time it gets made....

Then I have luck, I only play 40k and Kow, but I have still not paint all the miniatures of two Mighty Empires of the year 91, all tiles of the new and all models of Space Hulk for the 2009 edition. In all the above for about 500 miniatures.
It is true that in the last two years, since returning to the hobby I have painted more than in all previous years, about 1000 miniatures: Necrons, Marines, Tyranids and now dwarfs Mantic.

And you find that worrying?  You are obviously a pretender to the League of Backlogians...   :P


500 minis, that's just some of my Mantic Undead backlog...

So say I have luck, until two years ago had many more. When I returned to the hobby, the first thing I did was sell or trade the minis I knew I never paint all my Eldar and orks. Thus I removed over 600 models that I was accumulating over the years.
Although I have been almost ten years away from the hobby, if you saw a model that I liked and kept buying it again for when I were to paint and play, as a result, my wife wanted to throw me out into the street.

So after two years of intensive painting, I have completed 2 full armies of 40k (Tyranids and Necrons) and now my priority is Mantic Dwarves and the Space Marines, although sincerely hope to finish with the dwarves before. Because if I end up with the dwarves, I'd like to get another army of Mantic.

Meh just check my forum intro for a real backlog and that dosent include all the weird roleplay gribblys that I have accumilated ofer the past 23 years!

I'm one of the few fans of Mantic's Elf look, but I have to say that out of the four plastic ranges, they are the most annoying to clean up mould lines on.... which is a shame as I was looking at throwing some in with my Dwarfs to keep my Good and Evil sides at the same points levels.

I quite enjoyed the Elves in the end, maybe the first few I clipped out just had extra flash/mould lines as I had two command sprues and the second one was fine  :-\

I'm on my third one as the first two were really bad casts. This one isn't fabulous, but I could live with it. The knife handle was bent and it broke unbending it, but it's thick enough I was able to pin it back on.

I'm on my second attempt to araldite and pin the two parts together, but again the joint doesn't feel stable enough, plus the model balances slightly to one side, which isn't good news on a model that tall.

TBH, if the joint fails "testing" on Monday night, I'm going to abandon the base, cut off the large metal rectangle that the Necro uses to attach to the base and insert a spare GW flying stem up his arse to have him floating a little above the ground ona normal Mantic base (which I'll turn upside down and drill a hole through for the stem).

Yes it's not a great model and the castings seem pretty bad. Mine was lacking some details and I had to use greenstuff to fil gaps and repair the feet.

In the end I smoothed the feet off and they'll be black slippers or some such.

So pinning and araldite (2 attempts) failed on the Male Necromancer  >:(

Instead I reached for the spare flying stem from the Blackstone Fortress lying nearby, and did this:

Should also be undercoating my first Mantic models on Friday morning, a troop of Ironwatch with rifles, and painting them during the evening next week  :)

Method:
Spray white
Usual base technique
Brush on Quickshade Medium
Clean brush in white spirit
Pick out collar in Chainmail
Light drybrush of Bleached Bone
Light drybrush of Skull White (inc base)

Job done :)

(Well I need to tidy the rim and do a quick wash on the Chainmail, but yeah)

Hopefully this will develop into a speedy appearance of my Tomb Kings :)
